Rescue Mission

Save
Smog.

One owner. 36,000 miles. Calypso Green. A 5.0 and a manual. It should have been an easy win, but years of hidden rust turned Smog into one of the biggest rescue missions at Zug Island Motorsports.

Not Every Survivor Is Clean

The Smog Rescue

Smog came out of Florida alongside Scrapstang and initially looked like the better survivor: one owner, 36,000 miles, Calypso Green paint, a 5.0, and a manual transmission.

Then reality showed up.

Once the inspection began, the rust story became impossible to ignore. The trunk floor, rear window channel, and door jamb areas all revealed damage far beyond what we expected.

Most people would start thinking parts car.

We see a low-mile, one-owner Fox Body that still deserves another shot. That's why we're saving it.

What We Found

The Damage

Smog looked like a dream find on paper. Then we started uncovering what years of trapped moisture had been hiding. These photos show why Save Smog became more than a simple project.

Smog Mustang door jamb rust

Door Jamb Damage

Rust has worked into the jamb area and surrounding seams. The metal will need to be opened up to reveal the full extent of the damage.

Smog Mustang trunk opening rust

Trunk Opening

Severe corrosion has attacked the trunk opening. This area will require significant repair work and metal replacement.

Smog Mustang rear window channel rust

Rear Window Channel

One of the most serious problem areas on the car. Water intrusion appears to have caused years of damage that must be repaired before the body can be sealed correctly.
